hi hfx

Community Project

At its core, hihfx.ca is a slow-form, human-driven website that I created with the purpose of connecting fellow Haligonians, and allowing people to share and exchange positive experiences. The site consists of a single text box that anyone can use to anonymously submit a message. Messages go directly to my email inbox, and I simply post the responses back onto the site every week for people to read through.

hi hfx is very intentionally an old-school, rudimentary solution for people who are tired of using social media and demoralized from global news. There are no accounts, photos, algorithms, ads, or notifications. It’s a genuinely simple and refreshing way to let people share and learn fantastic things about our city with one another.

A true passion project.

Since hihfx.ca launched in May 2025, over 350 messages have been received and posted. I had the pleasure of speaking with Portia Clarke on CBC Radio to discuss why the idea resonated with so many people. The reception continues to be nothing short of incredible, and this project remains my proudest work to date.

Have you seen this sign?

Matching the very essence of hi hfx, the marketing has a strict “no-digital” policy. Posters, stickers, business cards, and word of mouth are some of the main ways that I promote the site. Creating a social media account for a project like this would simply have defeated the purpose.
